KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Many believe that as summer draws to an end, so does the opportunity for beautiful plants to thrive, but the UT Gardens Knoxville and UT Arboretum Society know that fall is for planting. In order to offer you the most fall planting options, the UT Gardens and the Arboretum Society will both hold plant sales on Saturday, October 9. Spend your Saturday browsing through gorgeous fall plants and enjoying some of East Tennessee’s finest outdoor experiences either at the UT Gardens in Knoxville or at the UT Arboretum in Oak Ridge.
Here’s the scoop on both events:
UT Gardens Knoxville Fall Plant Sale: Saturday, October 9 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. A preview sale will be held Friday, October 8, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. for all UT employees, Gardens volunteers and Friends of the UT Gardens. Friends will also receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases. “Shoppers will see plenty of cutting-edge, special plants that they won’t find just anywhere,” says Dr. Sue Hamilton, director of the Gardens. The Gardens’ plant sale will offer more than just the opportunity to purchase spectacular plants. “We will also be offering design inspiration with container displays and will have on-hand experts to answer questions and offer advice,” states Hamilton.
The UT Arboretum Society’s Fall Plant Sale: Saturday, October 9 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the UT Arboretum, 901 South Illinois Avenue, in Oak Ridge. Beaver Creek Nursery, East Fork Nursery and Sunlight Gardens, and Arboretum Society members and friends will be offering quality plants especially suited for planting in the fall. All proceeds will benefit the UT Arboretum Society, which supports the educational and research mission of the UT Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center and Arboretum. Visitors to either sale should plan to round out their shopping experience with a self-guided tour of the Gardens and Arboretum. Numerous walking paths are available and visitors will be able to see plants that thrive and flourish in the Tennessee climate and get ideas on garden design to use in their own landscapes and gardens. Or, they can just enjoy a quiet moment in the East Tennessee landscape.
