So Christmas doesn’t sneak up on you, I am going ahead a posting things I find now. One of my favorite things to use to prepare for Christmas is the FlyLady’s Holiday Control Journal. You can read all about the FlyLady here, but it is a complete list to keep you organized. Her philosophy is that if you break things down to 15 minutes at a time, you can accomplish anything without going crazy. Don’t print all 25 pages without reading them. You only need to print a few pages out of the packet. One page is dedicated to your holiday travel arrangements. That may not be applicable at your house.
Another section is all about holiday baking. The FlyLady encourages you to gather your recipes in advance, and plan everything out. It even includes a grocery list. The list has developed over the years from other people’s mistakes. Instead of saying butter and flour, it has you examine what kind of butter and flour you need. That way you don’t have to go back to the grocery store to get self-rising flour and unsalted butter instead of the all-purpose flour and margarine you got the first trip.
The section I use the most is the present list. It is super-organized. There is a section for all the things you have ordered, where they are from, when they are supposed to be delivered and if you received them. Another list is presents you are making by hand. No more Christmas Eve realizations that you didn’t put your mother-in-law on your gift list because you decided to make her a photo book and you forgot to order it.
Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is still a lot of work, but with this Holiday Control Journal, I don’t feel like things get away from me. Let me know what you think.
